Thomas College New Student Orientation Steps 

 

Please complete steps 1-6 while you are on campus and the remaining steps after you get home. 

 

1.      Log into your Thomas account on a Thomas computerDefault username is (last name + first initial) and default password is (TC + last six digits of SSN + !). If this doesn’t work and you need help with your username or password, please let someone know. 

 

2.      Change your passwordUse whatever method is necessary to remember your passwordYou will need this password to login to your college email and Canvas (our Learning Management System)If you forget your password, please contact our Service Desk at 207-859-1204 or servicedesk@thomas.edu. 

NOTE: if you are having problems changing your password, please skip this step and change it later. 

a. On the keyboard, press the following keys at the same time: Ctrl + Alt + Delete. 

b.      On the screen, click ‘Change a password.’ 

c.       For the ‘Old password’, type in the password you used to login to this machine. 

d.      For the ‘New password’, type in the password you wish to use for your account (then retype that password to confirm) 

e.      Hit the ‘Submit’ button (à). 
 

3.      Register for Self Service Password Reset. 

a.      In an internet browser window, go to https://aka.ms/ssprsetup. 

b.      Sign in with your Thomas account. 

c.       Verify at least one alternate authentication method (either a phone number or an email address). 
 

4.      Check that your e-mail works. 

a.      In a new Internet Explorer window, or tab, go to the following page: https://www3.thomas.edu/myThomas/daily.asp 

b.      On the left side navigation, click ‘Outlook Web Access’ 

c.       Use your username and password to sign in. 

 

5.      Read and accept the Acceptable Use Policy. 

a.      To read the AUP go to: Thomas College Acceptable Use Policy - http://www3.thomas.edu/technology/acceptable-use-policy/ 

b.      To accept the AUP: 

                                                                                      i.In a new Internet Explorer window, or tab, go to the following page: https://www3.thomas.edu/myThomas/daily.asp. 

                                                                                     ii.On the left side navigation, click ‘myThomas.’ 

                                                                                   iii.Click on the ‘Register’ link. 

                                                                                   iv.Fill in the form (be sure to use your @thomas.edu email address for the ‘Your E-mail Address?’ field) and hit ‘Continue.’ 

                                                                                     v.Login to your e-mail to get your PIN number (see step #3 above) 

                                                                                   vi.Go back to the ‘myThomas’ page and click ‘Login.’ 

                                                                                 vii.Use your ID Number or SSN, and your newly acquired PIN, to login 

                                                                               viii.Once logged in, you will be asked to accept the AUP. 
 

6.      If you have a smartphone, please choose one of these to setup your phone with your Thomas email account: 

a.      iPhones - https://update.thomas.edu/instructions/ios_activesync.asp 

b.      Android Phones - https://update.thomas.edu/instructions/android_activesync.asp 
 

7.      After you get home, verify your course schedule using the myThomas system (you can access MyThomas from the Thomas College Daily Page link in step 4a.). You can also use myThomas for many other things like finding classmates, your grades, financial information, etc. 
 

8.      In a few days, check Canvas (you can access Canvas LMS from the Thomas College Daily Page link in step 4a.) from off-campus to see your courses and any information your instructors may have uploaded for you. Check again at least a week before you arrive on campus. 
 

9.      At least once a week during the summer, please check your email, either with our web site or your smartphone. 
 

10.  Between now and when classes start (at least a week before), please follow the instructions at https://update.thomas.edu for any computer or other networked device you may bring to campus.   This link will also show you how to get Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud software.
